Longreach Mineral Exploration (LME) has announced its selection in the 2024 BHP Xplor programme, a six-month accelerator programme by BHP.

This significant development is set to propel exploration efforts at LME’s East Canning Project in Western Australia.

The BHP Xplor programme is designed to support early-stage explorers in accelerating and de-risking their geologic concepts, and to make them investment-ready. Over the next six months, LME will benefit from BHP Xplor’s funding and gain access to a team of specialised technical, business, and commercial experts.

Established in 2018, LME is renowned for its risk and science-based approach to discovering high-quality tier 1 copper and critical metal deposits. The company’s strategic edge lies in its mineral systems approach, leveraging its petroleum DNA to identify new tier 1 deposits crucial for the ongoing energy transition.

LME’s innovative approach to exploration utilises tools such as sAIsmic® that enables immediate access to all Australian seismic data in the public domain and integration with other proprietary or public data. GeoClerk®, an innovative geo-imagery search tool powered by machine learning, facilitates a thorough and efficient search of crucial historical and recent documents from government archives, the ASX®, and internal LME databases.

LME’s 100% owned East Canning Project is situated in a new frontier terrane with evidence for long-lived lithospheric structures and demonstrated tier 1 potential derived from analysis of multiple independent data, including reprocessed seismic geophysics, pXRF measurements on copper-bearing petroleum wells, and the 3D reinterpretation of geological and geophysical datasets.

Rob Bills, Managing Director of LME, expressed his enthusiasm, stating:

“The selection of LME’s East Canning project by BHP is testament to the potential of this project and the innovative approach our team has taken to generate such a high-quality and bold, frontier opportunity.

“The seed funding from the BHP Xplor programme will be pivotal in fast tracking an aggressive exploration programme aimed at unlocking critical minerals crucial for the energy transition.

“LME extends gratitude to the Parna Ngururrpa Native Title Aboriginal Corporation for their support and negotiation of the Native Title Land Access Agreement.”
