Conference focuses on safety of workers in resources sector

QRC Chief Executive Ian Macfarlane said the health and safety of workers always has been, and always will be, the top priority for the resources sector.

“The safety of the men and women working in the resources sector is of fundamental importance to the QRC and its members,” Macfarlane said.

“The industry is committed to working with the Government to ensure the safety of all workers remains the number one priority in the resources sector.”

The conference, sponsored by Glencore, is one of the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere with up to 700 delegates across the country expected to attend over the four days – this year’s theme is ‘Realising Opportunities Together’.

Delegates will hear from the Commissioner for Mine Safety and Health, Kate du Preez; 6-time Bathurst winner and OAM recipient, Craig Lowndes; Founder of Heart of Australia, Dr Rolf Gomes; Managing Director of Brady Heywood, Dr Sean Brady; Barrister at Crown Law, John Tate, interviewing the last Mining Warden, Frank Windridge; and Chief Executive Officer of MATES in Mining, Andrew McMahon.

The Conference programme will also see ABC Radio Brisbane and Queensland Presenter, Kelly Higgins-Devine, host a facilitated session with Dr Robert Cohen and a panel of medical, health and mining experts discussing Disease Prevention in the Workplace.
