FLSmidth’s Cage Guardian™ Safety Brake to improve safety in underground mines

Global Mining Review,
FLSmidth launches Cage Guardian™ Safety Brake for steel guides to better protect both underground mine workers and cage components. The innovative safety brake, which runs on steel guides, uses mechanical systems to keep underground mine workers safe in the event of slack-rope or a rope break event.
By using steel guides instead of conventional timber guides, Cage Guardian eliminates uncertainties inherent with wood and provides an enhanced degree of safety, repeatability and reliability. Whereas timber guides are subject to moisture and defects, steel guides have stable properties and dimensions and are much easier to maintain.
