Global Mining Review,
Epiroc has been selected by Managem to enhance the safety and productivity of its Tizert mining project in Morocco. Epiroc will provide Managem with the digital tools necessary to modernise its operations and ensure both safety and efficiency at this critical site.
As an actor in Africa’s energy future, Managem is a Pan-African mining group that has been developing and enhancing a diversified and balanced portfolio between gold and energy transition metals for over 90 years. The group is involved in the entire mining cycle, from exploration to the commercialisation of metals. Managem employs 5000 people, operates in seven African countries, including Morocco, and is committed to maintaining its culture of responsible mining valuation in all its activities by adhering to international standards and norms in environmental protection, social practices, and governance.
The Tizert project in Morocco, a greenfield site, planned to be the largest underground mining operation in the region, represents a transformative opportunity for growth. With an ambitious production target of 3.6 million tpy, this copper mine is poised to redefine mining excellence in the region.
To fully harness its potential, Managem envisioned a state-of-the-art digitalised greenfield copper mine, leveraging advanced technologies to ensure optimised production and enhanced safety from day one. Managem’s commitment to operational excellence and safety required real-time tracking solutions for personnel and vehicles. The solution provided by Epiroc delivers key advantages:
- Situational awareness, real-time tracking of vehicles and personnel with hardware tags, ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Emergency support, quickly determines the safety status of personnel, significantly improving response times.
- Event automation automates event-based processes and machine data while integrating with third-party planning systems for a clear overview of work progress, ensuring that project timelines are maintained.
- Data integration through MQTT (Sparkplug), ensuring smooth, real-time data flow.
“Our modular and scalable solutions meet Managem’s immediate needs while allowing for future growth as the Tizert project expands and we are happy to support the project further”, said Pelin Kocak, Regional Digital Business Manager.
