Global Mining Review,
Joint efforts of Sakhalin region authorities with the enterprises of East Mining Company contributed to reducing the tension in the labour market of the region.
The panel of the Agency for Labor and Employment of Sakhalin Region summarised the results of the year. The following persons participated in work of the panels: A.V. Belik, Deputy Chairman of the Government of Sakhalin Region, representatives of public organisations, employers, executive authorities and local self-government. The Deputy Chairman of the Government gave a positive assessment of maintaining employment of the population and preventing the growth of unemployment, the level of which comprised 0.6% with the average Russian index -1.0%.
For significant contribution to the implementation of activities aimed at reducing tension in the labour market of Sakhalin region the Agency partners received awards from the organisation. Among them: Solntsevsky coal mine and Coal Sea Port of Shakhtersk.
These enterprises employed more than 70 people from the number of workers of the miners liquidated in the area. For obtaining new specialties, retraining was organised. Now, former miners extract coal on the surface or dispatch it to the sea, but what is most important – they still remained in the coal industry. Former miners could choose a new profession, undergo training and reliably work for EMCO enterprises. The scholarship, paid during the period of study (from 2 - 4 months) has become a material support for the people in this period.
Owing to joint co-operation of the regional authority and EMCO, the process of employment of former miners underwent without consequences both for people and their families, and for the economy of the region.
