The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Codelco, Máximo Pacheco, and the Executive Chairman, Rubén Alvarado, along with several Vice Presidents, participated in the 76th National Congress of the Federation of Copper Workers (FTC) held in La Serena, where they held a dialogue with union leaders from the different divisions of the corporation.
During his remarks, Pacheco emphasised the value of the ongoing dialogue with workers' representatives and the collaborative environment built in recent years. "It was a conversation with excellent questions that summarised the concerns, interests, and grievances of our union leaders. It was also a respectful and constructive conversation, characterised by a willingness to exchange opinions and listen to our proposals," he noted.
For his part, Héctor Roco, president of the FTC, also valued the meeting. “I believe it was a frank and open dialogue about the challenges and opportunities, but also about the threats we face. We had the opportunity to share, converse, and discuss perspectives, to take stock of these past years, but also of the work we have to do. As always, the leaders asked very insightful questions, and there were answers that reassure us, but also highlight the challenge regarding these threats that we must address soon,” he noted.
Rubén Alvarado, in turn, highlighted the collaborative relationship with the union leadership. “Through their representation of the workers, they have co-built the Codelco that we are so proud of today. We strive to be a pillar of sustainable development, and this is achieved, among other things, through ongoing dialogue with the workers. From this perspective, through the Federation of Workers and those they represent, we have paved the way, and we are certain that we will continue working in the same manner in the future,” he emphasised.
During the meeting, the Chairman of the Board reviewed the four pillars of Codelco's growth strategy: the development of structural projects, the partnership model with leading global mining companies, responsible mining practices that respect the environment and local communities, and the strengthening of the strategic agreement with its employees. Pacheco emphasised that during this period, the company was able to renew and strengthen this agreement, consolidating dialogue aimed at safeguarding operational continuity and jointly addressing the challenges facing the industry.
“Successful companies today are defined by the type of relationships they maintain with their communities, their workers, and those who represent them. At Codelco, this is even more relevant, given the contribution we make to the country's social progress,” he stated. He also praised the relationship he built with the FTC during his tenure and his participation in the union's annual congresses. “For the past four years, I have participated in the FTC Annual Congress, where we have always had a direct, clear, and committed dialogue focused on the country, the company, and productivity. Today, as my term comes to a close, I am honoured by the way this dialogue has developed,” he concluded.
