Rio Tinto continues digital technology partnership with CGI

Rio Tinto is expanding its long-term partnership with Canadian firm CGI to further boost the performance of its aluminium operations in Atlantic through the use of advanced data analytics and information technology systems.

Over the next four years, CGI will provide specialised support to Rio Tinto’s aluminium operational centre in the Lac-Saint-Jean region of Saguenay, Quebec under contracts worth around CAN $30 million.

The partnership will focus on developing new tools and systems to support operators at the Aluminium Operational Centre in the Saguenay by using predictive mathematics, machine learning and advanced data modelling.

Gervais Jacques, Managing Director at Atlantic Operations, Rio Tinto Aluminium said: “Rio Tinto is a pioneer in researching and developing leading edge smelting technologies here in the Saguenay, where we produce some of the lowest carbon aluminium in the world.”

“This partnership with CGI will ensure we have highly specialised support with the latest in data analytics and information technology systems to make our operations safer and even more productive.”
