Global Mining Review,
Sibanye-Stillwater’s subsidiary Keliber has signed a contract with Metso for the delivery of an effluent treatment plant for Keliber’s lithium hydroxide refinery to be built in Kokkola, Finland.
The typical value of this type of order is approximately €15 – 25 million. In addition, the remaining portion of approximately €40 million, covering the equipment for Keliber’s concentrator plant in Kaustinen, Finland, will be booked in the Minerals segment’s 3Q23 orders received.
Metso’s scope of delivery for the effluent treatment plant includes the engineering, procurement, and supply of the equipment for the full process, as well as advisory services. The key equipment to be delivered for the plant consists of OKTOP® Atmospheric Reactors, enabling the precipitation of impurities and the recovery of lithium, an electrochemical water treatment unit for arsenic removal, as well as an inclined plate settler and Metso’s Planet Positive Larox® PF filters and FP pressure filters for efficient dewatering. For the concentrator plant, Metso will supply all key process equipment, from crushing to dewatering.
