At the MINEXCHANGE 2024 SME Annual Conference & Expo, the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) and Hecla Mining Company jointly announced a new, three-year partnership.

The agreement includes a significant expansion of SME membership enrollment amongst Hecla’s employee base, offering access to the wide variety of benefits enjoyed by over 13 000 SME members.

As partners in sustainable excellence, SME and Hecla will equip current and future generations of mining industry leaders with a host of resources and opportunities to ensure the long-term stability of this critical sector.

SME and Hecla have also joined forces to produce and enhance events benefitting young professionals and students, such as MINEXCHANGE’s SME Young Leaders Monday Night Social and Professional Development Luncheon, in addition to the Emerging Leaders Alliance Conference. These events are defined by an abundance of personal and professional development opportunities for the future of mining.

To further promote industry engagement and visibility, the partnership will support the Women of SME Breakfast, the SME Mining & Exploration Division Luncheon, and the SME Foundation Gala, all of which are held annually at MINEXCHANGE.

“This partnership will pay countless dividends to current and future SME members and the mining community at large,” said David L. Kanagy, SME Executive Director and CEO. “We look forward to working more closely with Hecla, a key player in American mining ingenuity, to accomplish our mutual goals.”

“Hecla is proud to partner with SME to pursue our common goals of innovation and sustainability,” added Phillips S. Baker, President and CEO of Hecla. “We look forward to leveraging this relationship to not only support our talented team of mining professionals, but also to develop the next generation of leaders in the mining industry.”
