Kola MMC switches cargo transportation control to automatic mode

Global Mining Review,

At the Monchegorsk industrial site of Kola MMC (a subsidiary of Norilsk Nickel), a weighing system has been put into operation for the logistics department worth about RUB 21 million. The complex carries out weighing and accounting of vehicles, and also controls the transportation of goods in automatic mode. The weighing system was created on the basis of truck scales for weighing machines weighing up to 100 t.

The system software allows control the movement of vehicles to be controlled by means of traffic lights and barriers, as well as automatically recognise state numbers or RFID-tags of cars. The weighing speed of one machine in normal mode is 1 – 1.5 mins.

At the same time, to measure the mass of the transported cargo, the car is weighed twice: first, to determine the mass of the empty car (tare), and then - laden (gross). The weight of the cargo is calculated directly by subtracting the tare from the gross.

The weighing system will allow the company to more accurately and efficiently track the volumes of transported goods and reduce labour costs for weighing.
