Nominations are now open for the 2018 Victorian Women in Resources Awards, an initiative recognising individual achievement and excellence in company gender diversity programmes and performance across the state’s minerals industry.

Now in its second year, the awards are held in partnership between the Minerals Council of Australia and the AusIMM Women in Mining and Resources Network Victoria (WIMnet Victoria).

The 2018 Victorian awards aim to build on the success of the inaugural awards, which saw 17 nominations received in the Exceptional Women in Victorian Resources category alone.

The breadth of nominations reflected the diversity of Victoria’s resources industry, which extends from minerals operations and export-focused mining equipment, technology and services companies in regional Victoria to the corporate offices of major global mining companies in Melbourne.

Winners in each of three Victorian Women in Resources Awards will become finalists at the 2018 Women in Resources National Awards.

Last year, Victoria swept the national awards with each of the state’s three national finalists – Michelle Keegan (Vice President Strategy, Incitec Pivot Limited), Gabriela Love (Principal Mine Projects Engineer, Newcrest Mining) and St Barbara Limited; recognised with a national award.

2017 Exceptional Woman in Victorian Resources recipient Keegan was honoured with a special Industry Achievement Award for her career success, service to community and work to promote gender diversity in four jurisdictions while Victorian Gender Diversity Champion Love received a Highly Commended Award for her contribution to revitalising focus on gender diversity in mining.

St Barbara went on to be recognised with the national award for Excellence in Company Programs and Performance. Headquartered in Melbourne, the gold mining company’s industry-leading diversity programs include monthly pay gap analysis and a Women’s Internal Network sponsored by its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

Applicants have until 10 May to enter with winners in each of the three categories announced at a ceremony in June.
