Global Mining Review,
Swann Group has announced changes to its leadership team as part of the group’s transition from executive search specialists to a broader leadership and strategic advisory firm. These changes follow an organisational restructure and rebranding earlier in the year.
Swann Group is the parent company behind the brands Swann (formerly Swann Global), the international executive search and leadership advisory firm focusing on natural resources and related industries, and Cygnet, specialists in placing permanent and interim site-based managers into mining operations and projects.
The restructure sees John Murray, who established Swann Global in 1993, move into an advisory role, continuing to mentor and advise business leaders worldwide.
Lorraine Meldrum (currently Group CEO) becomes Group Chairman and will act as a global ambassador for the group’s brands as well as advise the new leadership team.
Tom Harris is promoted to Group CEO. Harris joined the organisation in 2012 and has taken a number of increasingly senior positions in Swann, most recently as group Chief Operations Officer where he led the restructuring and rebranding projects alongside day-to-day commercial and delivery operations.
At brand level, Nona Sichinava, who also joined the organisation in 2012, is promoted to Managing Director of Swann. Under her leadership, Swann will continue to provide senior executive and board-level search, coaching, research and advisory services to help clients build and develop high-performing senior leadership teams and boards.
“I’m looking forward to building on Swann’s excellent worldwide reputation for advising several generations of natural resources executives, and evolving our suite of services to anticipate and meet the leadership needs of our fast-changing industry,” said Sichinava. “My goal is to ensure Swann continues to be recognised as a strategic human capital partner to organisations in the natural resources sectors.”
Cygnet, which launched in February 2020 to focus on site-based management roles, will continue to be led by Managing Director, John Larpent.
“Our clients benefit from Swann’s experience, reputation and trusted worldwide network built over nearly 30 years,” explained Larpent. “We add our proactive approach to connecting with leaders and future leaders in mining projects and operations. We can secure individual talent or build entire site-based management teams and set them up for sustained success with assessment and coaching.”
Meldrum commented: “The time is right to let the next generation of leaders in the Swann Group take us forward in the next stage of our transformation. This restructuring gives us the foundations on which to build a broader range of consulting and advisory services while ensuring that our existing work in executive search remains world-class.”
Harris added: “It’s an exciting and challenging time to be taking the reins of the Swann Group. In this uncertain world it is critical that we have the agility and leadership to adjust to our clients’ changing requirements. With two experienced Managing Directors at the helm of Swann and Cygnet, a world-class team, and an evolving business model that will provide comprehensive advisory support to our clients, I’m confident we can achieve great things and take advantage of the opportunities ahead.”
