Tanzania-focused coal development company, Edenville Energy, is continuing to look at opportunities to start small-scale mining at its Rukwa coal project to satisfy growing domestic coal demand, following the recent ban on coal imports into Tanzania.

According to a company news release, it is currently talking to several potential offtake buyers and is in the process of selecting suitable areas and coal seams for extraction. Mining operations should begin in 2017.

In early December, Tanzania’s Deputy Commissioner of Mines, Eng. Ngowi, visited the Rukwa site and had positive discussions with Edenville staff. “The Tanzanian Ministry of Energy and Minerals continue in their support for the project,” the company said.

“These are very busy and exciting times for Edenville,” said the company’s CEO, Rufus Short.
