Keliber has prepared the environmental impact assessment (EIA) report for the expansion of its lithium mining operations in Central Ostrobothnia, Finland, and submitted it on schedule to the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment of South Ostrobothnia (ELY Centre) for official review on November 24, 2020 as part of the assessment.

The EIA report involves assessment on the influence of increases in production volumes in the Syväjärvi, Rapasaari and Outovesi mine sites, as well as concentrator operations, including ore crushing and sorting to the Kaustinen Päiväneva area or Kalavesi area. In addition, the Natura 2000 assessment which was carried out in 2017 has been updated.

“We have made an extensive assessment of the current state of the environment and assessed the impact of our operations. We would like to thank our stakeholders for their valuable feedback and good cooperation,” said Environmental Manager, Kari Wiikinkoski.

“We are pleased that we were able to submit the EIA report well before year end. Our goal is to submit the corresponding permit application related to EIA processes to the authorities during spring 2021,” added CEO, Hannu Hautala.
