Global Mining Review,
As the mining industry faces increasing demands for efficiency, reductions in environmental impact, and lower operational costs, TAKRAF Group continues to push the boundaries of engineering excellence. With a legacy spanning nearly 300 years, the company remains at the forefront of technological advancements, delivering innovative solutions for mining, material handling, and minerals processing worldwide.

Engineering for the future
TAKRAF Group stands at the forefront of mining innovation, developing high-performance systems that maximise operational efficiency while minimising environmental impact. The company’s comprehensive portfolio includes in-pit crushing and conveying (IPCC) systems, high-capacity ship loaders and cutting-edge filtration solutions – each designed to support the evolving needs of the global mining sector.
One example of TAKRAF Group’s engineering expertise can be seen in its recent contract with Société Nationale Industrielle et Minière (SNIM) for the F’Derick iron ore project in Mauritania. The scope of supply includes a complete crushing, screening, and material handling system, along with a train loading station. The project builds on a relationship dating back to the early 2000s and reflects the Group’s reputation for reliability and world-class technology.
In Canada, TAKRAF’s advanced train unloading system was a critical component of a major bulk terminal expansion. The solution includes two single railcar dumpers operating in tandem mode, a high-capacity indexer, and five-wheel grippers – all working together to streamline the unloading process. By enabling efficient handling of railcar strings, the system significantly boosts throughput and reduces turnaround time. The Group also played a key role in a large backfill operation in South Africa, demonstrating its ability to deliver complex, site-specific solutions. The project involved design, engineering and construction support for a new extendable conveyor and auxiliary infrastructure. Notably, the tail drive station features a unique jacking mechanism designed to accommodate ground settlement in areas with previously backfilled, unstable terrain. This flexibility helps ensure safe and consistent operations in challenging conditions.

Pioneering sustainable solutions
Sustainability is a key driver of TAKRAF Group’s innovations. The company’s DELKOR brand, specialising in solid-liquid separation technologies, plays a crucial role in water conservation and tailings management. DELKOR’s state-of-the-art filtration systems enable mines to reduce water consumption and improve waste handling, aligning with the industry’s push for more responsible resource management.
Among DELKOR’s latest advancements is the development of high-capacity filtration units designed to handle large volumes of slurry with minimal energy usage. These systems are particularly valuable in arid regions, where water scarcity is a growing concern. By improving waste management and conserving water, the Group enables clients to meet sustainability goals without compromising productivity.

Global expertise, local commitment
A key strength of TAKRAF Group lies in its global footprint combined with deep regional expertise. Whether supporting clients in remote locations or navigating complex regulatory environments, the company tailors each solution to local challenges while maintaining high global standards.
Importantly, the Group’s support does not end with equipment delivery. Dedicated service and aftermarket teams provide ongoing maintenance, refurbishment, and performance optimisation – helping clients extend equipment life, reduce downtime, and lower total cost of ownership. These services apply not only to TAKRAF Group’s own technologies but also to equipment from other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
Shaping the future of mining
Looking ahead, TAKRAF Group continues to invest in research and development to stay ahead of industry trends. From digitalisation and automation to energy-efficient designs, the company’s innovation pipeline is focused on delivering the next generation of mining technologies.
With a legacy rooted in nearly three centuries of engineering excellence, TAKRAF Group is not just responding to today’s mining challenges – it is shaping the industry’s future. Through its commitment to sustainability, efficiency, and client success, the company remains a valued partner for mining operators worldwide.
