Under the agreement, BRN would sell up to 10 000 t of nickel and 385 t of cobalt a year in the form of mixed hydroxide product (MHP) for a minimum of 10 years from the start of production at the Piauí Nickel Project in Brazil, expected in 2029.
The agreement is contingent upon Brazilian Nickel obtaining a comprehensive project financing package for the Piauí Nickel Project development. It is also dependent on a commitment from EMME to supply up to 10 000 t of nickel contained and 1000 t of cobalt contained annually to German EV battery OEMs or their qualified suppliers.
Brazilian Nickel CEO, Mark Travers, commented:
“This agreement marks a major step forward toward our goal of becoming a significant supplier of EV battery materials to Europe, strengthening the resilience of the critical minerals supply chains. EMME, with its focus on processing responsibly sourced materials in Europe, makes them an ideal partner for us.”
EMME President, Antonin Beurrier, commented:
“We find in Brazilian Nickel a partner sharing our values, combining industrial and environmental excellence. We are proud to convert their nickel and cobalt feedstock into low-carbon battery grade materials for Europe and are looking forward to ramping up our respective assets to provide credible alternative solutions to EV supply chains.”
