BHP notes the media reports on 23 July concerning the Australian class action in relation to the Samarco dam failure.
BHP confirms it has been served with a class action proceeding filed in the Federal Court of Australia in Victoria.
BHP intends to defend the claim.
Samarco Mineração S.A. is jointly owned by BHP Billiton Brasil Ltda and Vale S.A. BHP’s 50% interest is accounted for as an equity accounted investment.
