Global Mining Review,
During PERUMIN 37 Mining Convention, the delegation of the World Mining Congress (WMC) 2026 presented the latest progress of the event that will once again position Peru as the global epicentre of mining. The world’s premier mining gathering will take place in Lima from June 24 to 26, 2026, under the theme “Mining for the Future: Trust, Transformation, Technology.”
The congress will convene more than 3000 leaders from 70 countries, including government authorities, investors, academics, and representatives from the global mining industry.
It will also coincide with the celebration of Inti Raymi – the Festival of the Sun, a symbol of new beginnings and a fitting moment to reflect on the mining sector’s role amid the energy transition and the growing demand for critical minerals.
“The World Mining Congress is a call to governments, industry, innovators, and investors. Let’s all act, think differently, break paradigms, and build trust with society. The future depends on how fast we move together. We have the people, we have the energy, we can do it,” said Doris Hiam-Galvez, Chair of the WMC 2026 Program Committee.
A global experience of knowledge, technology, and culture
WMC 2026 will feature a world-class program including plenary sessions, technical presentations, short courses, exhibitions, and dedicated programs for youth and women in mining. It will also offer an unparalleled cultural experience, with visits to iconic mining operations such as Cerro Verde, Quellaveco, and Antamina, and cultural excursions to Machu Picchu and the ancient civilization of Chavín de Huántar.
Organised by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP), the World Mining Congress 2026 marks the return of this prestigious global event to Peru after more than 50 years. “This congress will be a turning point to rethink how mining can respond to the challenges of trust, transformation, and technology,” stated Darío Zegarra, President of the IIMP.
Call for technical abstracts
During the presentation, Doris Hiam-Galvez announced that the deadline for submitting technical abstracts has been extended until October 13, 2025.
Researchers, professionals, and organisations are still on time to participate by submitting proposals focused on innovation, sustainability, technological transformation, social management, and other global challenges of the mining industry through the official website: wmc2026.org.
