Global Mining Review,
The Piauí site in northeast Brazil “fully meets” The Nickel Mark standards for responsible production and risk readiness, according to the Copper Mark, which oversees The Nickel Mark award.
The Copper Mark is a globally recognised assurance framework that evaluates environmental, social, and governance practices at sites that produce, source, or recycle copper, nickel, molybdenum, or zinc, ensuring optimal alignment with industry-leading standards. It created The Nickel Mark to focus specifically on responsible practices within the nickel industry, promoting transparency through the entire value chain.
Piauí Níquel Metais is the first mining site in Brazil to obtain The Nickel Mark designation at this stage of production, specifically the company’s PNP1000 project. The award assures stakeholders across the value chain that the Piauí Project adheres to the most rigorous ESG standards in the industry, reinforcing Brazilian Nickel’s role as a leader in responsible mining. Brazilian Nickel remains committed to fostering long-term value while minimising negative environmental and social impacts.
