In these meetings, he emphasised that the priorities of this new phase will be to strengthen safety, stabilise operations, and move towards a more disciplined management style, closer to the teams and focused on results.
"My commitment is to listen and work alongside people to build a safer, more stable, and more sustainable operation. Operational discipline, prevention, and teamwork are the foundation for fulfilling our commitments and regaining Codelco's trust," Gómez stated.
During the day, the new CEO held his first meeting with the chairman of the board, Bernardo Fontaine, in addition to meetings with the executive committee, the general managers of each of the divisions and tours of the Head Office to greet the teams. “I am convinced that the best solutions arise when we listen to different perspectives and work as a single team.
The opportunities that Codelco has ahead are enormous, and we must face them together,” he stated. For his part, Chairman of the Board Bernardo Fontaine welcomed the start of this new phase for the company.
“Today we have good news: Jorge Gómez is taking over as CEO of Codelco, a corporation facing crucial challenges for its future. His leadership, experience, and ability to manage complex organisations will be fundamental to further strengthening Codelco and implementing the necessary changes and improvements.
In this way, Codelco will regain its leadership, the very leadership that makes it so beloved by Chileans,” he emphasised.
