Global Mining Review,
Epiroc has launched its rugged, powerful SmartROC T30 RX, a surface radio remote drill rig, built on the same flagship platform as the SmartROC T25 R and SmartROC T30 R.

This construction and quarrying rig provide the highest technology and automation level in its class, which also contributes to improved fuel efficiency and a reduced environmental footprint. Features such as the Epiroc Hole Navigation System, impressive 19 kW drilling power and an excellent hole range, combined with brilliant terrainability, make the T30 RX the perfect companion. This offers the operator exceptional productivity.
The brand new SmartROC T30 RX, developed for construction and quarrying, is now joining SmartROC T25 R and SmartROC T30 R – all built on the same flagship platform for surface drill rigs.
A compelling rig built to deliver extra power
Compared to its sibling SmartROC T30 R, the RX rig has a more robust feed and boom system which delivers a greater hole range. This is thanks to its 19 kW drilling power, 129 kW engine power and high flushing capacity of 105 liters per second. The SmartROC T30 RX is equipped with the well-proven rock drill COP SC19 HE, delivering high impact energy and rotation torque.
“Thanks to the extra power, we can now offer T51 tools and 102 mm drilling. With an impressive hole range of 64 – 102 mm, this rig will be perfect also for larger infrastructure projects as highways or hydroelectric plants”, says Marcus Leü, Global Product Manager at Epiroc.
Capable of handling numerous applications
Thanks to a low centre of gravity, extended steel crawler tracks and excellent ground clearance, the SmartROC T30 RX delivers great terrainability and makes it possible to take on challenging work sites. The rig is also equipped with 95° to 30° feed swing and a 34° to 39° swing radius, that combined with a 4.7 m boom system gives the rig a coverage area of 13 m².
A smart rig for smarter operators
SmartROC T30 RX is equipped with the Epiroc Rig Control System (RCS), facilitating onboard automation solutions. An automated rod handling system adds drill rods manually or automatically to reach the desired hole depth. This solution supports sustainable and consistent operations and boosts average productivity. The RCS also enables access to the Epiroc developed Hole Navigation System (HNS), which ensures the highest quality of drilled holes, and makes your operation a great deal safer and easier. The HNS technology reduces the amount of explosives required, as well as improving fuel efficiency – contributing to a reduced environmental footprint.
“Together with the Rig Control System which supports your operation with automation features and helpful drilling logs, this rig can deliver terrific productivity, says Leü.
