Fleet Space has announced the launch of ExoSphere MT – its real-time Magnetotellurics (MT) solution now available as part of its AI-powered mineral exploration platform, ExoSphere.
Featuring next-generation MT, ambient noise tomography (ANT), active seismic, and gravity surveys – Fleet Space’s ExoSphere platform enables leading mining companies like Rio Tinto, Barrick, Gold Fields, AngloGold Ashanti, and Maaden to acquire, process, and integrate high-resolution 3D exploration data into AI-powered insights for their field teams in days.
“At Fleet Space, we’re building the next generation of space-enabled exploration technologies to support the global mineral value chain’s evolution into a new data-driven paradigm”, said CEO & Co-Founder of Fleet Space, Flavia Tata Nardini. “To enhance AI predictions for mineral exploration at scale, the global mining industry needs high-quality, standardised, and real-time datasets that are compatible with modern AI systems to unlock more accurate targeting insights, simplify exploration workflows and enable agile, data-driven decision-making in the field. Together, we can build the space and AI-enabled mining operations that will enhance orebody knowledge and define mineral discovery in the century ahead.”
Magnetotellurics: Unlocking deep earth signals for smarter exploration
MT is a passive geophysical method that uses naturally occurring variations in the Earth’s electromagnetic (EM) fields – produced by solar winds and thunderstorms – to measure the electrical resistivity and conductivity of subsurface materials. Uniquely suited to image crustal structures, fluid pathways, and alteration zones, MT has proved to be a valuable technique for enhancing orebody knowledge and greenfield exploration, particularly in underexplored regions with little or no data. Despite its ability to detect conductive minerals such as sulphides, a type of mineral very often targeted in exploration programs, MT has historically seen limited deployment at scale due to its labour-intensive setup and slow data processing times. Fleet Space’s real-time MT solution changes that.
Real-time, scalable MT – Now a reality
Satellite-enabled, ExoSphere MT enables mining companies to acquire MT data in real time and rapidly process and deliver 3D resistivity models to exploration teams. On its own, MT data supports detection of conductive minerals such as sulfides, key for targeting copper and other commodities. Together with Fleet Space’s other Multiphysics datasets such as seismic and gravity, MT enhances imaging of mineralogy, especially alteration. Key advantages of ExoSphere MT include:
- Seamless multiphysics integration: ExoSphere MT can be deployed in parallel with seismic and gravity surveys, combining measurements to reveal both mineralisation potential and structural context. This complementary approach enables rapid cross-validation, reduces uncertainty, and delivers a richer, more complete 3D view of the subsurface.
- Real-time edge processing: Pre-processing on the device enables efficient data backhaul to the cloud via satellite, eliminating a critical bottleneck of legacy processing workflows.
- Live telemetry & rapid QC for reliable results: With satellite connectivity in every device, teams can monitor device health in real-time – maximising uptime and efficiency in the field. ExoSphere MT also includes real-time quality control – delivering phase tensor, resistivity, and penetration depth maps in days, not weeks, to ensure data integrity and inversion readiness.
- Rapid Cloud Processing: MT data is processed into interpretable 3D resistivity models in a matter of days, with speed and quality unmatched in the industry.
“With real-time MT, Fleet Space has elevated the capabilities of this powerful deep-imaging technique to the speed and scale required by modern exploration”, added Chief Technology & Product Officer, Dr. Hemant Chaurasia. “Historically, MT’s value has been constrained by slow deployments, complex logistics, and delayed results – but with ExoSphere MT, we’re combining advanced sensors, edge processing, satellite integration, and rapid cloud-based data processing to transform MT into a dynamic tool that delivers actionable 3D insights within days to exploration teams in the field.”
ExoSphere MT: Driving field results with Hillgrove Resources
In collaboration with Hillgrove Resources, ExoSphere MT was deployed over the Kanmantoo Copper-Gold Project in South Australia. Within days, the survey produced a resistivity model that showed promising signs toward resolving zones of ancient hydrothermal alteration. The initial deployment demonstrates how real-time MT can streamline the complex logistics and data processing associated with MT surveys. Additional details on the results of the MT survey with Hillgrove will be released in the coming weeks.
Mineral discovery powered by real-time multiphysics and AI
The launch of real-time MT follows Fleet Space’s US$100 million Series D to continue the expansion of its vertically integrated exploration platform, ExoSphere. In March, Fleet Space acquired HiSeis – the industry leader in active seismic solutions – to make active seismic imaging a scalable, AI-ready, and cost-effective tool for the global mining industry. By building the next-generation of geophysical tools that fuse exploration data streams into real-time, AI-compatible datasets with ExoSphere, Fleet Space is building the infrastructure to enhance AI targeting predictions on a planetary scale for faster discovery of minerals essential to Earth’s clean energy future.
