Global motor and drive manufacturer WEG will exhibit at Hillhead 2026, taking place at Hillhead Quarry, Buxton, Derbyshire, UK, from 23 – 25 June.

Among the motors displayed at stand PB24 will be the new W22 Prime, alongside the W23 Sync+, W23 Sync+ explosion-proof IP65 version, W80 AXgen and WG20 geared motors, all selected to meet the demands of heavy-duty quarrying, construction, and recycling applications.

Held every two years in a working Derbyshire quarry, Hillhead is the UK’s largest quarrying, construction, and recycling equipment exhibition. The event brings together more than 600 exhibitors and nearly 20 000 visitors across three days, providing a highly practical environment for WEG to showcase its motor technologies.

WEG’s specialists will be on hand to discuss the new W22 Prime, the next generation of its W22 induction motor range. Designed to deliver IE4 and IE5 efficiency levels without an inverter, the W22 Prime combines the robustness of traditional induction technology with enhanced energy performance.

This makes it well suited to quarrying and aggregate applications, where equipment must withstand heavy loads, dust, vibration, and long operating hours. The W22 Prime can operate direct-on-line (DOL), allowing users to improve motor efficiency while retaining a simple system architecture. It is also compatible with variable speed drive (VSD) operation, giving engineers further flexibility where required.

“Quarrying and aggregates operations are major energy users, so even incremental efficiency gains can make a significant difference to operating costs and emissions,” explained Marek Lukaszczyk, marketing manager for WEG UK and Middle East. “At Hillhead, we want to show that improving efficiency does not have to mean adding unnecessary complexity. The W22 Prime allows users to upgrade to IE4 and IE5 efficiency while retaining the reliability expected from a WEG induction motor.”

WEG will also showcase its W23 Sync+ motor line, which combines permanent magnet and synchronous reluctance technologies to deliver high efficiency across the speed range. For environments where safety and protection are critical, WEG will also highlight the explosion-proof W23 Sync+ version with IP65 protection, supporting applications where dust ingress and hazardous area requirements must be carefully managed.

Also on display will be the W80 AXgen, WEG’s axial flux motor. Its compact, space-saving design enables OEMs and systems integrators to reduce machine footprint while maintaining high performance.

WEG will also exhibit its WG20 geared motors, which combine reliable geared motor performance with flexibility for a wide range of industrial applications. WEG’s specialists will also be on hand to talk about the WG50, WEG’s motor platform for heavy-duty applications. Designed for severe industrial environments, it offers robust construction, low vibration levels and reduced maintenance requirements.

Visitors will be able to learn more about Technidrive’s automatic Jaw Crusher Unblock system, which uses a WEGmotion Drives package to help minimise disruption from crusher blockages. Designed to improve safety by reducing manual intervention, the system enables a VSD to be remotely activated in unblock mode. This helps operators clear stopped or fully loaded crushers quickly and efficiently.

“Reliability, uptime, and efficiency are central priorities for quarry operators,” continued Lukaszczyk. “By bringing together products such as the W23 Sync+, W80 AXgen, WG20 geared motors and information on the WG50, WEG is demonstrating how motor technology can support the industry’s energy efficiency goals without compromising on durability.”
