Canadian exploration company Callinex Mines Inc. has shared the results from its 2017 summer drilling campaign at the Pine Bay and Big Island projects within the Flin Flon mining district of Manitoba. The campaign consisted of ten holes totalling 5350 m of drilling to conduct a maiden programme at the company’s Big Island Project and follow-up on high-grade volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) mineralisation at the Pine Bay Project.
The Big Island Project, which hosts the high-grade Tara Lake Deposit, consisted of five holes totalling 1480 m to test the down-plunge potential, confirm the orientation of a fault reported to have displaced part of the deposit and test for lateral extensions of mineralisation.
This programme confirmed that the fault was likely to be responsible for displacing a portion of the deposit along the projected plunge. Drill hole TZ17-03 tested for a possible fold nose closure and intersected 7.9 m of 2.5% Zn and 0.42 g/t Au at a starting depth of 69.5 m including 0.2 m of 28% Zn, 1.9 g/t Au and 42.7 g/t Ag at a starting depth of 76.9 m.Multiple borehole surveys identified conductors down-plunge that represent potential for mineralisation in a proximal setting. In particular, hole TZ17-02 which was drilled approximately 500 m south along the projected plunge line, identified an untested borehole pulse electromagnetic conductor with a strike extent of 450 m and a plunge extent of 675 m, with a coincident magnetic signature indicative of massive sulfides. This target will be tested as part of an upcoming 2018 drilling programme and the results will assist the company to determine whether to proceed further with the option agreement.
A follow-up drilling programme at the Pine Bay Project was completed to test for continuity between drill holes 284-3-93-DPN that previously intersected 10.3 m grading 13.1% Zn Eq. and drill hole PBM-024 located 180 m along strike that intersected 2.6 m of 3.0% Cu Eq. (See news release dated 1 May 2017). Drill hole PBM-030 reached its intended target and intersected intense alteration with abundant pyrite mineralisation before intersecting a post-mineralised intrusion. According to Callinex Mines, there appears to be a significant dyke or sill that could limit the overall potential size of this zone.
The company plans to complete a 3D Induced Polarisation survey in the area to model lowly conductive pyrite mineralisation that may occur over a series of smaller deposits. Drill hole PBM-026 expanded a mineralised zone associated with the Baker Patton deposit and intersected significant stringer mineralisation from 399.2 m to 462.1 m including 3.8 m grading 2.4% Cu at a starting depth of 399.2 m along with a separate intersection of 9.6 m grading 1.2% Cu at a starting depth of 452.5 m including 2.2 m of 1.9% Cu at a starting depth of 452.5 m.
The Pine Bay Project is located 16 km east of HudBay’s 777 Mine and processing facilities near Flin Flon, MB and covers a significant portion of the Baker Patton Felsic Complex, one of the largest and most highly altered packages of felsic volcanic rocks within the Flin Flon Greenstone Belt.
